This is an update for the past couple of days. I love pizza. So does June. See below.
I had a fantastic day, I think it was Tues. A full day of rehearsal for my friend and collegues show. He wrote it while at NYU, and after Chatquaa tehater company picked it up for an engagment, he revised it, and submitted it to ArsNova for their (A)ll (N)ew (T)alent theater festival. It’s called “The Uni-VERSE Project” and it will go up at ArsNova on the evening of the 26th. Killer show that combines Rap, poetry, stroytelling, dance, music...essentially everyting... to tell a story about affirmation of the self. Great stuff, and you should check it out. He asked me to come on board as choreographer, and soon I became Associate Director for the production as well. There will be dress rehearsal/presentation on the eve of the 16th at NYU, so that is what we are gearing up for. Rehearsing with Cliff, (that’s his name, Clifton Duncan) makes up the majority of my day.
Anyway, yes monday was great, and after a full day of work on the show, I took the long subway ride back to couch #2 in the E. Village, the land of skinny jeans, all black, and denim rips. On the way, I took the L train crosstown, and somewhere around 14th st waiting in the station there was this fascinating man cutting paper ‘faces,’ of people, the way that one does while in kindergarten, and the teacher asks you to all make paper snowflakes for the family christmas tree. This guy would look at whoever he was ‘drawing’ and use his scissors to cut out the face, to reveal an incredibly accurate rendition of them when the paper was opened and flat. He asked me to model for him, which i did, and here is the result.
Now frankly, I think he made me look a little too ‘sylvester stallone’ to be the skinny mexican iowan kid that you all know and love, but hey I’d like to think my days at the gym recently have been paying off.... its better when you go and look at from a distance... go ahead, I’ll wait just walk away from your screen... thats it.

See? It looks like me.
This dude swore he was in the business of ‘paper faces’ for 50 years. In a very heavy chinese accent he just kept saying, “ you nice young man, you nice young man. You half-chinese? ohhhhh... Mexican. ok, oook. You model for me? 2 minutes, ok? ok? ok. You nice young man. I do this 50 year. YOU do anything 50 year? One thing 50 year? no? You nice young man.
After my adventure with this guy, who refused to let me take a picture of him, I finally made my way home. A block away from the couch, this guy chided me for carrying a Papa John’s pizza home. Half drunk, he said, “ hey man papa johns? really? come on! try the place across the street (Apizza)! Its way better man! I just said, dude, “this was got on a gift card. Thanks though.” He replied,” ahhh alright I understand. Promptly I went home and set it on the table.
June took a liking to it right away, being bold enogh to start to push it off the table as I sat less than a foot away from her and watched. I fed her, she calmed down.
I woke up the next morning to pizza at my feet.
Moral of the story: 'Never underestimate the power that Italian home-cooking has on the appetite of your furry companion.'
"Pizza... irresistible to both humans and pets since 1889. "

Or, at least thats when the modern pizza was invented. Greeks new what was up a long time before.
Rehearsal all day today... and yes, I took three pieces of left-over pizza with me for lunch. They were on the floor. Don't judge me.
